Where Is It From? Kimberlite Meaning

The Kimberlite name comes from the place of its discovery in Kimberley in South Africa, so the rock name relates to the place where it is found.

So the Kimberlite meaning relates to the same areas where the famous Kimberley diamonds are mined, in volcanic pipes deep in the earth, where high pressures created natural diamonds.

While an individual stone may contain diamonds, these are not gem grade diamonds and the stones and are very small. 

This crystal has traditionally been used by the tribal people of this area of Southern Africa and was used in ceremonial activities.

The stone that is found in the Kimberlite pipes are volcanic rocks formed at high temperatures during volcanic eruptions.

These powerful magma eruptions create a quite unusual igneous rock that attracts many people as there can be small diamond crystals in some pieces. 

An interesting fact about these stones is that sometimes they can contain Diamonds inside them, so if they happen to crack open, check to see if they contain a Diamond inside.

The mineral makeup of Kimberlite varies so its energy may differ depending on what it contains with abundant minerals found in individual stones.

The Kimberlite magma creates stone that is a totally unique igneous rock that is a mixture of a number of different minerals and many of these minerals are well known.

Most stone is quite dark but may have a range of colors showing in places, displaying various minerals including diamonds but most are too tiny to be classified as precious stones.

There are two types of the stone, one that has been oxidized and was colored yellow by Limonite and is known as 'yellow ground'. The other non-oxidized stone is known as 'blue ground'.

These stones are purported to be hard to mine, but whether this is true or not has been hard to accurately verify as they seem to be readily available from good crystal sellers.

Minerals Included In Kimberlite

Minerals that have been found in these stones includes Diamond, Pyrope Garnet, Ilmenite, Green or Chrome Diopside, Spinel, Limonite, Perovskite and various other lesser known minerals including rare-earth minerals.

Some quite well known minerals are found included in Kimberlite stones including the magnetic stone Magnetite, Olivine, (the green stone known as Peridot).

In addition they may contain the green minerals Serpentine and Chlorite which is contained in many other crystals including Chlorite Quartz.

Best Crystals To Use With Kimberlite

What are the best crystals to combine with Kimberlite? These stones have a strong action that acts as a psychic shield.

This includes stones such as Fire Agate, Aegirine, Aurichalcite and Cookeite.

Specific happiness stones to use for this purpose includes Bustamite, Rainforest Jasper, Chrysoprase, Peridot or Citrine.
